As a small business owner, you probably have a lot on your plate. Thankfully, you can take advantage of the latest technology to increase your efficiency when completing your daily business tasks. For example, you can benefit from using smart speakers such as Google Home, powered by Google Assistant, and Amazon's Alexa devices, such as the Echo, which can do more than just play games, stream music and tell jokes. Though this new technology still comes with its limitations, business owners can easily use these voice-controlled, hands-free speakers to streamline certain processes throughout the day.
Google Home and Amazon Echo
You can use both Google Home and Amazon Echo as a sort of electronic personal assistant. As CNET reports, the two smart speakers have different capabilities such as checking your calendar, creating shopping lists and alerting you to traffic conditions on your daily commute. You can also use both devices to track a package, check your flight status and control your office lights. If you and your employees need to travel for business, you can even use voice commands on Amazon Echo to call an Uber.
Evaluate the Pros and Cons
If you're thinking about investing in a smart speaker, it's important to research each device's capabilities and limitations. For example, when you use Google's services, such as Google Calendar, Google Keep and Google Maps, Home learns more about you, which, in turn, enables the program to respond to you with personalized answers. In this way, Home becomes increasingly useful as you use it more and more often. However, Home does have its limitations. For instance, this device currently can't change appointments on your calendar or integrate with Gmail or Google Docs.
The Echo, on the other hand, has independently developed integrations, or "Skills," that allow you to complete certain activities, such as making voice-powered payments with Capital One, according to CNET. However, as CNET reports, you may experience some issues with the Echo's sound performance.
Despite these limitations, businesses can still use either of these smart speakers as more than just an entertainment hub. After all, you can use these devices to help complete your daily business tasks in a quicker, more efficient manner, leaving you more time to focus on the big picture responsibilities that come with running your own company.
