Filing Extensions for Forms W-2 and 1099-MISC Are NOT Automatic

On August 1, 2018, the IRS released Treasury Decision (TD) 9838, “Extension of Time to File Certain Information Returns,” which clarified that filing due date extension requests for Forms W-2 and 1099-MISC reporting would not be automatically approved.


Social Security Administration to Notify Employers of Name/SSN Errors

Starting in August 2018, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will begin mailing “Educational Correspondence” to employers that submit Forms W-2 containing employee names and Social Security numbers (SSNs) that do not match SSA’s records.
