Trends in Electronic Filing and Deposit Mandates for Employers

The transition to an all-electronic tax filing and payment system at the federal, state and local levels is creating new tax compliance and administration challenges for employers. Businesses that handle payroll tax reporting and depositing in house must contend with all these different electronic tax filing mandates and law changes to stay compliant. This paper discusses trends in electronic tax filing, the pros and cons of in-house and outsourced payroll processing and tax filing, and tips on how to evaluate third-party payroll service providers.
