Department of Labor Fiduciary Investment Advice Regulation Goes Into Effect June 9, 2017

On April 7, 2017, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) published a final rule, delaying the date by which compliance with its previously published fiduciary investment advice regulation is required by 60 days. The "applicability" date of the fiduciary investment advice regulation, originally scheduled for April 10, 2017, will now be June 9, 2017. (Click here to view the final rule.)

Impact to Employers

The investment advice regulation is scheduled to go live June 9 (with some modifications to previously published related DOL administrative exemptions that are designed to facilitate compliance), while the DOL considers further action. For example, the DOL may decide in the future to change some provisions of the rule or the related exemptions.
