ADP Names Dermot J. O’Brien Chief Human Resources Officer

Former Head of HR for TIAA-CREF to Lead Internal Human Capital Management Strategy Serving ADP’s Large, Diverse Global Workforce

O’Brien as the company’s new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Corporate Vice President. Mr. O’Brien will serve as a member of ADP’s Executive Committee and report directly to ADP President and Chief Executive Officer, Carlos A. Rodriguez.

In his new role, Mr. O’Brien will work closely with ADP’s senior leadership team to develop workforce plans and programs that align with ADP’s overall strategic objectives. His responsibilities will include forecasting ADP’s global talent needs; implementing initiatives that effectively attract, develop, deploy and retain a diverse talent population; overseeing succession planning and management development, and improving ADP’s already strong levels of employee engagement.

Mr. O’Brien joins ADP from Fortune 100 company TIAA-CREF, where he served for nine years as the company’s Executive Vice President of Human Resources, and as a member of its executive management team. During his time at TIAA-CREF, he was instrumental in leading significant positive shifts in business performance and employee engagement through the design and effective deployment of talent, leadership, reward, and inclusion strategies. Mr. O’Brien also played an important client relationship role.

Before joining TIAA-CREF, Mr. O’Brien served as First Vice President, Human Resources at Merrill Lynch, where he supported the company’s International Private Client group and Global Debt Markets business. Prior to that, he spent a decade with Morgan Stanley, first serving in New York and then overseas as Vice President of HR for Asia in Hong Kong, and later as Vice President, HR and head of HR for Morgan Stanley Japan in Tokyo.

Mr. O’Brien is a founding member of the Human Resource-50 Group, an invitation-only, thought leadership and knowledge sharing group consisting of chief human resource officers from the world's most respected companies. He also is a member of the Personnel Round Table, an organization of senior Fortune 500 HR executives; and the CTPartners Board of Directors Human Capital Institute, which convenes annually to share ideas about current challenges facing corporations and boards. A native of Dublin, Ireland, Mr. O’Brien earned an undergraduate degree in finance from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University, where he is a frequent guest lecturer.
